Rangers club director Sandy Easdale has confirmed that former chief executive Charles Green agreed a naming rights deal over the club's Ibrox stadium with Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley.
Fans of the Glasgow club have previously expressed concern about Ashley's involvement in the club, fearing that he could change the name of Ibrox to the Sports Direct Arena, as he previously did with Newcastle's St James's Park.
Easdale told the Daily Record: "Let's clear this up, the Sports Direct Arena. Charles Green had already done a deal with Mike on that. Sports Direct haven't taken it up as yet. Mike Ashley could call it the Sport Direct Arena tomorrow."
The newspaper reports that the deal was struck two years ago for just £1, and that the club has spent £250,000 on legal bills trying to get out of the contract.
