Show Racism The Red Card chief executive Ged Grebby has revealed that former Newcastle United goalkeeper Shaka Hislop was racially abused by his own fans.
Grebby told the Chronicle that in 1995, Hislop was with his wife Desha when he was filling up his car at a petrol station when he heard people call him a "black b******".
The founder of the anti-racism group went on to reveal that Hislop turned to confront the young fans, who hadn't realised that it was the Magpies goalkeeper.
According to Grebby, once the group had discovered it was Hislop, they ran over to ask the shot-stopper for an autograph.
