A court has issued an arrest warrant against former England international Lee Hendrie after he missed a bankruptcy hearing.

The 36-year-old, who has had spells with Aston Villa, Sheffield United and Derby County, was declared bankrupt in January last year, having amassed debts with HM Revenue and Customs.

"It's unfortunate that the Court has had to resort to an arrest warrant but people ignore Court orders at their peril," the Daily Mail quotes Guy Thomas of Taylor Walton LLP as saying.

"We are hopeful that this can still be quickly resolved. All bankrupts, no matter their job or status, have a duty to co-operate with insolvency proceedings.

"That duty can also extend to those that they did business with. The Trustee in Bankruptcy has a duty to investigate the bankrupt's affairs and their duty is to act in the interest of all creditors."

Hendrie has most recently been playing for Conference side Tamworth.
