Two-time Giro d'Italia winner Ivan Basso has been discharged from hospital after undergoing surgery to treat testicular cancer.
The Tinkoff Saxo rider had to withdraw from the Tour de France after being diagnosed with the condition, which was discovered following a crash earlier in the race.
Milan's San Raffaele hospital, where Basso underwent the operation, said that the 37-year-old was in a "great condition" following the procedure to remove his left testicle, and that the long-term prognosis was "excellent".
Basso has two podium finishes at the Tour de France, finishing as runner-up in 2005 after a third-place finish in 2004.
