Clarke Carlisle's wife Gemma has confirmed that the former Burnley defender will return home today after spending almost six weeks in hospital as a result of a serious accident.
The 35-year-old was hit by a lorry on the A64 in North Yorkshire in December and was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary, where he has been receiving treatment.
The former chairman of the Professional Footballers' Association has been in a stable condition over the past few weeks and is deemed well enough to return home.
This morning, his wife tweeted: "Nearly 6 weeks on... Today I'm collecting Mr C to come home full time! Thanks once again for your amazing support and love. #luckytobehere."
Carlisle retired from football in 2013 after spending 16 years as a professional.
