Detective Hilton Botha has been dropped from the Oscar Pistorius murder case following claims that he is facing seven attempted murder charges.

The leading investigator, who found the body of Pistorius's girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp at the Paralympic champion's home last week, has been accused of shooting a group of people in a taxi while drunk.

While charges against Botha regarding the alleged 2009 incident were initially dropped, it has emerged that seven counts of attempted murder were reinstated yesterday, according to the Daily Mail.

The police officer told Pretoria Magistrates' Court during Pistorius's bail hearing that two bottles of what he believed was testosterone, along with needles, were found in the home of the double amputee, who killed his girlfriend by shooting through a bathroom door four times.

Despite the claim, Botha later confirmed to the court that he had not read the full description of the substance on the bottle, which the defence stated had contained a legal herbal remedy.

Pistorius, who has denied the premeditated murder of the 29-year-old model, could discover if he will achieve bail this week.
