A neurologist has insisted that Micheal Schumacher is likely to remain an invalid for the rest of his life after spending almost six months in a medically-induced coma.
The seven-time Formula 1 world champion sustained a severe head injury during a skiing accident in France in December, but was able to move to a rehab clinic near his home in Switzerland earlier this week.
Dr Erich Riederer, who is a Zurich-based neurologist with experience of coma patients, told 20 Minuten: "He will remain an invalid all his life and will always remain dependent on the help of others.
"But first it is an incredibly positive message when someone wakes up after being in a coma for half a year. For him it is positive, but also for his family, this is hugely important."
Riederer says that the German's progress would be considered a success if he can sit unaided in three months and operate an electric wheelchair within six months.
