Former footballer Paul Elliott has returned to the Football Association with a position on its Inclusion Advisory Board.

The 50-year-old stepped down from a previous role at the FA in February 2013 after he was found to have used discriminatory language in a private text message.

Following the incident, Elliott also resigned from his role at anti-racism body Kick It Out.

"I'm honoured, humbled and delighted to be offered a role by the FA on its Inclusion Advisory Board," the ex-Chelsea and Celtic defender said.

"I used inappropriate language in anger. I immediately apologised unreservedly and profusely to my family, community and stakeholders and resigned from various roles.

"I continued my charitable work in various roles as chair, patron and ambassador throughout this period but, my passion for this work has never left my soul. I have been committed voluntarily for the last 30 years in this area and I still feel I have much to offer."

Kick It Out has welcome Elliott's return to the FA.
