A Scottish footballer has reportedly been handed a suspended sentence for hitting a female student on the head with a glass jug.
Douglas Hill, who plays for Scottish Championship club Alloa Athletic, is alleged to have swung the jug and smashed student Imogen Newens-Hill after he was "bumped into" on a dance floor at House of Smith Club in Newcastle.
As a result of the incident, which occurred on October 25 last year, Ms Newen-Hill required hospital treatment on a three-centimetre cut on her head.
According to the Daily Star, a court heard that 30-year-old Hill had texts stored on his phone about the incident, one of which read: "Can hardly remember fuck all. Just got cracked from behind so turned around and swung a bat with a bottle of vodka in hand. Can't believe what happened. Gutted."
Hill pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding and assault on the basis that he had reacted recklessly.
The footballer was sentenced to 14 months, which was suspended for two years, behind bars, along with 180 hours of unpaid work and a £1,300 fine.
