The International Paralympic Committee releases a statement after Oscar Pistorius is convicted of unintentionally killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

The International Paralympic Committee has released a statement regarding Oscar Pistorius's culpable homicide conviction.

The six-time Paralympic gold medallist has been found guilty of unintentionally killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

The double amputee shot dead the South African model by firing four gunshots through a toilet door in his bathroom at his home in Pretoria in the early hours of Valentine's Day last year.

A statement from IPC chief executive Xavier Gonzalez read: "Following today's verdict, our thoughts remain with all those who have been affected by this terrible tragedy, in particular the family and friends of Reeva Steenkamp who sadly lost her life in this incident.

"Throughout this case, the IPC has stressed the importance of differentiating between Oscar's contribution to the Paralympic Movement and his private life.

"As a sports organisation, it would be unwise for the IPC to comment on the conclusion of a court case that is not related to sport."

In the High Court yesterday, Judge Thokozile Masipa cleared Pistorius of premeditated murder and common law murder.
