Tennis star Johanna Konta is shortlisted for the Sunday Times Sportswoman of the Year award 2016.

Tennis star Johanna Konta has been named among the list of candidates for the Sunday Times Sportswoman of the Year award for 2016.

The 25-year-old has been in impressive form this year, guaranteeing a spot in the world top 10 rankings following a straight-sets win over Samantha Stosur in the WTA Elite Trophy.

The British number one managed to reach the semi-finals of the Australian Open this season and also progressed into the fourth round of the US Open at Flushing Meadows.

Konta could be recognised for her progress by being named Sportswoman of the Year at an awards ceremony in London Bridge on December 8, but she faces tough competition.

Olympic boxer Nicola Adams, equestrian star Charlotte Dujardin, taekwondo champion Jade Jones and cyclists Dame Sarach Storey and Laura Trott are also nominated for the award.

Organisers have introduced new categories to the awards in order to recognise Olympic and Paralympic heroes from the Rio 2016 Games.
