Valencia midfielder Dani Parejo has been dropped following the emergence of footage showing him drunk and holding a shisha pipe in a nightclub.
A fan filmed the 27-year-old looking worse for wear in the video, which was uploaded to Twitter and forced the sheepish Spaniard to offer an apology.
Parejo, linked with a £16m to Southampton last week, could now be on his way out of the Mestalla as boss Cesare Prandelli - on the receiving end of abuse from a separate individual in the clip - left the player out of his squad to face Leganes in the Copa del Rey on Wednesday.
"It's not an excuse but this video was recorded during my free time and I had no training the following day," the former Real Madrid man said on Twitter. "I'd also like to add that I don't know the individual who appears in the video. I am genuinely sorry for what has happened."
Speaking after Parejo's comment was made, Prandelli told reporters: "He hasn't been selected and a decision will be made after the game about the video. He has personally asked me for forgiveness and the whole business is stupid."
Los Che are narrowly above the La Liga relegation zone thanks to their superior head-to-head record over Sporting Gijon.
