Greater Manchester Police are investigating the punches thrown by Wigan Warriors prop Ben Flower during Saturday's Super League Grand Final against St Helens.
The 26-year-old was sent off two minutes into the showdown for punching Lance Hohaia after knocking him to the ground during Wigan's 14-6 defeat at Old Trafford.
Flower has since apologised for his actions, but the police have confirmed that they are looking into the incident before taking a course of action.
According to BBC Sport, the police did not receive a public complaint, but will liaise with the Rugby Football League, St Helens and the Criminal Prosecution Service.
An RFL spokesman has stated that St Helens and Hohaia will decide whether or not to take legal action, but the Saints star has publicly claimed that he holds no grudges against Fowler.
