Jessica Ennis-Hill has described being away from her son while preparing for the World Athletics Championships in Beijing as the "hardest challenge".
The Olympic heptathlon champion gave birth to Reggie 13 months ago, and has left him at home in Sheffield with her husband Andy while she trains in Japan, before heading to China later this month.
"This is definitely my hardest challenge, being away from Reggie for this amount of time for the first time," the 29-year-old is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.
"Andy is taking charge and doing an amazing job. I video call them online every day and Reggie's happy and smiling, being a really good boy, which makes it easier for me being out here."
Ennis-Hill completed her first heptathlon since winning gold at the 2012 Olympics earlier this year, securing her qualification for next year's Games in Rio.
