Former FIFA president Sepp Blatter has claimed that "the English don't know how to lose" when asked about the prospect of England boycotting the World Cup in Russia.

The two countries are embroiled in a diplomatic row following a poisoning incident in the English city of Salisbury which left an ex-Russian spy and his daughter ill.

Several British politicians have suggested that England should withdraw from the tournament should it be proven that Russia was responsible for the incident.
Blatter, however, noted that England were unhappy after they lost out in the World Cup bidding process for both the 2018 and 2022 tournaments and claimed that resentment is in their nature.

"They are like that," the 82-year-old told Sport-Express. "They also spoke and acted against me. Nobody likes anything. The English don't know how to lose."
The 2018 World Cup runs from June 14 to July 15, with England starting their campaign against Tunisia in Volgograd on June 18.
