Police have attempted to halt protesters by firing stun grenades and tear gas during a demonstration just hours before the World Cup's opening fixture between Brazil and Croatia in Sao Paulo
Around 200 disgruntled citizens reportedly gathered near a subway station in Sao Paulo displaying a red banner reading, 'If we have no rights, there won't be a Cup'.
According to Sky News, police officers also used rubber bullets after the protesters tried to block part of the main highway used for those travelling to the Corinthians Arena, which will host tonight's match.
The group were eventually broken up, with one arrest being made, while CNN producer Barbara Arvanitidis is said to have been injured.
