A report by human rights group Amnesty International claims that migrant workers are being exploited in Qatar ahead of the 2022 World Cup.

Human rights group Amnesty International have revealed that migrant workers are being "ruthlessly exploited" in Qatar ahead of the World Cup.

A number of workers have been employed to build the infrastructure for the global football tournament, which will take place in the country in 2022.

The new report, which is based on interviews with 22 companies, 210 workers and government officials, has claimed that workers have been subjected to poor living conditions and excessive working hours.

It has also been claimed that some workers have had their payments withheld, while one manager is said to have described the group as "cattle".

"It is simply inexcusable in one of the richest countries in the world that so many migrant workers are being ruthlessly exploited, deprived of their pay and left struggling to survive," CNN quotes Amnesty International secretary general Salil Shetty as saying.

The report has been called 'The Dark Side of Migration'.
