Organisers of the Qatar 2022 World Cup have expressed their distaste regarding an article published by US sports website Deadspin about possible migrant deaths.

A recent article titled 'Report: Qatar's World Cup Expected To Take More Lives Than 9/11' quoted a report from the International Trade Union Confederation.

They are said to have predicted that more than 4,000 migrant workers will die in the build-up to the tournament in eight years' time.

In response to the article, Paul Hughes, who is the head of international media relations for Qatar's Supreme Committee of Delivery and Legacy, wrote a letter to the website.

Part of the letter read: "Is it because an Arab country is hosting the World Cup you thought this was a clever and shocking headline? For the sake of coming across as a decent open-minded person, I certainly hope not."

Deadspin published the letter on their website.
