Anna Watkins is confident that Great Britain will win more Olympic rowing medals in Rio next year following the team's success at London 2012.

Anna Watkins has backed Great Britain to win Olympic rowing medals at the Rio 2016 Games following their success in London three years ago.

The 32-year-old, who won Olympic gold with Katherine Grainger in the double sculls event, has been absent from the sport since January 2014 due to the birth of her two children.

Now, the rower is keen to return to action in time for the Games, which get underway in Brazil next summer.

"We set the benchmark incredibly high in London - there were four gold medals there," Watkins told Team GB's official website. "I think there will be more medals next summer.

"At the moment the men's squad, not that the squads are not competitive at all, are definitely ahead, so us women have got some work to do. It was the women that got three gold medals in London, but we've got some catching up to do now."

Grainger, who took a year off after London 2012, has qualified for Rio alongside Vicky Thornley.
