The Rugby Football League backs its disciplinary panel following criticism from Hull Kingston Rovers chairman Neil Hudgell.

The Rugby Football League has defended its disciplinary panel following criticism from Hull Kingston Rovers chairman Neil Hudgell.

Hudgell said that the match review panel was "not fit for purpose" following a number of "inconsistent decisions", one of which resulted in a three-game ban for Justin Poore.

The 29-year-old was deemed guilty of a dangerous throw, but Hudgell has hit out at the panel by referring to three Widnes players, who were given cautions for a similar offence against Hull FC.

"Rugby League's disciplinary process is the envy of many other major sports and is held in high regard for its transparency, consistency and fairness," said RFL director of standards and licensing Blake Solly in a statement.

"The individuals involved on the match review panel and disciplinary tribunals all bring considerable expertise, including experience on the playing field at international level, to the process."

Poore was given the suspension after Hull KR's win over Bradford Bulls on Sunday.
