Salford City Reds have been docked two Super League points and fined £5,000 for fielding 14 players in the 77th minute of their clash against the Castleford Tigers.
Darrell Griffin was sent onto the field for Salford, but Vic Mauro, who was due to make way for his teammate, ended up getting involved in a tackle, along with Griffin, during Salford's 34-30 victory.
A statement from the Super League said: "The Tribunal handed down the increased sanction after rejecting Salford's appeal against the original fine of £10,000 imposed at a hearing on May 8.
"Salford were deemed to be in breach of Operational Rules B1.1 (General Competition Rules - Laws of the Game); B2:4 (Match Day Operations Manual (section D15 – Interchange); and D1.8 (a) (serious or persistent breach of the RFL Operational Rules)."
The points deduction means that Salford are now bottom of the league table with London Broncos moving up a place.
