St Helens come from behind to beat the Wigan Warriors 30-14 during round 18 of Super League at Langtree Park.

St Helens overturned a half-time deficit in order to beat visitors Wigan Warriors 30-14 in round 18 of Super League at Langtree Park this evening.

Wigan started the game as the better side and they took the lead after Matty Smith and Dan Sarginson combined to register both a goal and try after 11 minutes had been played.

It took some time for St Helens to respond, but it was well worth the wait as Adam Swift completed an adroit exchange to register a try in the 29th minute and bring the home side into the game.

Helens went one better just three minutes later as Jordan Turner stood up to be counted when he converted a try of his own to move the hosts in a strong position with half time looming.

Visitors Wigan were not done yet, however, as Joe Burgess notched his side's second try of the night to leave the game in the balance going into the break with the Warriors leading 10-8.

St Helens seemed to galvanise themselves during the interval and they came out strongest in the opening stages of the second half, with Travis Burns and Mark Percival registering a try and a goal respectively to put the Saints in front at 14-10.

Wigan continued to push forward despite being behind and they made promising inroads as Joel Tomkins registered their third try in the 51st minute, before Helens's Percival returned again with two goals to push the hosts back in front.

With the clock ticking down the next score was to be vital in the outcome and it came from Helens man Shannon McDonnell, who broke through in the 66th minute to place the scores at 22-14 going into a potentially nail-biting finish.

Any chance of a Wigan fightback was quashed with 10 minutes left to play thanks to Jon Wilkin, as he strode forward to claim St Helens's fifth try of the night and put things beyond the reach of the visiting Warriors.
