Wakefield Trinity Wildcats forward Matt Ryan has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a shoulder problem.
The Australian has been playing through the pain barrier in recent weeks, but his campaign is now over after being told that he will need surgery.
Ryan has featured in every Super League match for the Wildcats so far this season.
"He'll go in for an operation next Wednesday so that will be him for the season," Wakefield coach James Webster is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.
"He's had it for a while and didn't want to know the full extent until I made him go and get a scan - he wanted to carry on playing."
Wakefield are back in Super League action on Sunday when they travel to Warrington Wolves.
