Warren Gatland 'nervous about domestic finals'

Warren Gatland is hoping that none of his British and Irish Lions players are injured during their domestic club finals.

British and Irish Lions head coach Warren Gatland has conceded that he faces a nervy couple of weeks as he watches members of his squad contest domestic finals.

May sees many club seasons coming to their conclusion with the Aviva Premiership final (Leicester vs. Northampton), RaboDirect PRO12 final (Leinster vs. Ulster) and Amlin Challenge Cup final (Leinster vs. Stade Francais) all being contested.

While he admits that he doesn't want any of his players to pick up injuries, Gatland is adamant that his party selection should give the finals their all.

"It's tough for the players in terms of they know a few days after a big game they are on the plane," Gatland told Sky Sports News. "There's a bit of trepidation about not picking up injuries. But if you go in with that attitude and try and look after yourself there is more chance of picking up an injury.

"So the advice to those players is to go hell for leather. It should be a good battle between two forward packs in the [Aviva] final.

"You watch them hoping to see good quality rugby and hoping that those players don't pick up an injuries but in the back of your mind you have to be prepared for that."

The Lions face the Barbarians in Hong Kong on June 1.
