Alun-Wyn Jones says that captaining the British and Irish Lions will be "special" but wants to have been picked for the right reasons.

British and Irish Lions lock Alun-Wyn Jones wants to have been awarded the captaincy to face Australia for his playing ability and not his leadership skills.

Jones, who is one of 10 Welshmen named in the starting XV, was given the armband by head coach Warren Gatland after the shock exclusion on Brian O'Driscoll.

While he admits that skippering the side will be special, Jones wants to be doing so for the right reasons.

"Hopefully I've been selected for the way I play and not necessarily the way I lead," Jones told BBC Sport. "I played from the start of the tour with an eye on getting into the first Test. To be selected in the position I am for the final Test is a pretty special moment for me personally, but obviously there's still a job to do.

"I'm fortunate to have been captained by some great men. Throughout the years you take a little bit of the best from the men above you and hopefully that will add to some of the leadership qualities I've got."

The Lions meet the Wallabies in the final Test in Sydney on Saturday.
