Danny Cipriani left frustrated with missed opportunity to impress

Danny Cipriani claims that he didn't have the opportunity to impress Stuart Lancaster as he had to help England defend against France at Twickenham.

England fly-half Danny Cipriani has admitted that he is frustrated he was unable to impress the coaching staff against France on Saturday.

The 27-year-old is believed to be fighting with Alex Goode for a spot in the final World Cup squad, and he came off the bench in the 19-14 win at Twickenham.

However, with France on top, Cipriani was forced to defend from full-back.

He is quoted as saying by The Telegraph: "After eight weeks of training, we all had a game to look forward to and that was the focus and it's frustrating not to have as much involvement as you'd like, but that is the game of rugby.

"You have to stick to the team plan, and for me it was just defensively following the ball at full-back to make sure there is no one making line-breaks. You have to stick to the team structure.

"Wearing the Red Rose is the proudest moment of my career, so I am going to keep doing that as long as I can. I'd have wanted to do more, but I didn't get a chance to get the ball. You have to do you team role, you can't just go searching for it and be selfish. You have to do what is appropriate."

England travel to Paris to play France again on Saturday.
