England hopeful on Lewis Moody injury

England captain Lewis Moody downplays the seriousness of a knee injury that forced him off the pitch at the weekend.

England captain Lewis Moody has played down the seriousness of a knee injury that saw him leave the pitch early during the team’s World Cup warm-up victory over Wales on Saturday.

The Bath flanker, 33, was helped off the field during the second half at Twickenham amid fears that the injury could impact on England’s World Cup plans.

Moody, who missed England’s successful 2011 Six Nations campaign with knee ligament damage, has described his latest knock as just a ‘tweak’ as he awaits a scan on Monday.

Speaking to the Mail on Sunday, Moody remarked: “I will have a scan on Monday morning because that is standard procedure when you leave the field, but the medics have told me not to read anything into that.

“By the time I got back to the dressing room I was moving normally and I realised it was not as bad as I thought. You don't get a definitive prognosis at this stage, except when it is very serious.”

England face Wales in a return warm-up fixture at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff on Saturday.
