Gloucester and England wing Jonny May has announced his retirement from international rugby following the conclusion of the 2023 World Cup.
The 33-year-old hangs up his Test boots following an illustrious 10-year stint with England, during which he amassed 180 points, including 36 tries in 78 matches.
Only Rory Underwood (49) has scored more tries for England, and May crossed the line for the final time in international colours during August's 30-22 defeat to Fiji in a World Cup warm-up match.
May - whose Test debut came against Argentina in 2013 - scored three tries during England's run to the 2019 World Cup final and also played five games at the 2023 edition after being drafted in for the injured Anthony Watson.
The Gloucester man completed 78 minutes of England's 16-15 semi-final defeat to South Africa, which proved to be his final appearance for Steve Borthwick's side, as he did not make the 23-man squad for their bronze final win over Argentina.
"Words can't describe the journey that I've been on so I won't try to put it into words," May told englandrugby.com. "At this point in time all I want to say from the bottom of my heart is a huge thank you to everybody who has been a part of this journey with me.
"I really can't mention them all, the list is too long, but from my very first coaches and teachers to all the medical and training staff that have helped me along the way.
"A Big special mention to my England team mates, guys who have lived every moment with me. I've made memories and friends for life. And quickly, just to mention one in particular, George Ford. Thank you mate.
"Another special thank you - a huge thank you - to the England fans. The ones at Twickenham, the ones who have made all this come to life for me. It's been incredible.
"It's an honour and a dream to represent my country and although I won't be out there on the pitch anymore physically I will always feel connected to this team in spirit. Thank you."
May has become the third England player to retire from Test duty since the conclusion of the World Cup, with Courtney Lawes and Ben Youngs also calling time on their international careers.
With May representing his nation at the World Cup, Gloucester began the 2023-24 Gallagher Premiership season with victories over Harlequins and Newcastle Falcons before suffering a 3-24 loss to Saracens last Friday.
