Ben Morgan: 'England need to be more clinical'

Gloucester forward Ben Morgan admits that England need to be more "clinical" and "ruthless" if they are to end an 11-match winless run against South Africa.

Ben Morgan has stressed the importance of England being more clinical in their match with South Africa on Saturday.

While the Springboks were suffering a surprise 29-15 defeat to Ireland last weekend, England came up just short in a three-point loss to New Zealand.

Stuart Lancaster has been urged to make alterations to his XV following a second-half display in which England's decision making in attack was questioned, but Gloucester forward Morgan has insisted that it is a change to a ruthless mentality that is needed.

Morgan told Sky Sports News: "Obviously we weren't happy with how things went [against New Zealand]. We needed to be a bit more clinical and a bit more ruthless in terms of taking our opportunities to score points, but we are still confident.

"We created enough opportunities to go out there and beat the All Blacks but we didn't quite take them. It's very much the same going into South Africa. We are pretty confident with our style of play and how we are playing; we just have to be more clinical. Test points are hard to come by in international rugby and that has got to be our difference.

"South Africa will have had a bit of rev up from their game against Ireland so it is going to be quite a contest. They are going to be really disappointed with the result against Ireland. We always knew it was going to be a physical encounter but I think the intensity will have probably lifted up."

England are winless in 11 internationals against South Africa - a run which stretches back to 2006.
