The Rugby Football Union has denied Nick Mallett's claims that he has been contacted about replacing Stuart Lancaster as England head coach.
The former South Africa and Italy coach was today quoted as saying that he rejected the chance to take over the Red Rose.
Lancaster told a press this afternoon that he had no idea that Mallett had been approached, but the RFU has refuted suggestions that there has been contact.
A spokesperson said: "There is a clear process at the conclusion of England's tournament, which starts with the review. No pre-judgements have been made nor anyone contacted."
Lancaster's future has come under question after England were eliminated from their home Rugby World Cup before the knockout stages.
