Matt Dawson blasts England decision making against Wales

Matt Dawson describes England decision not take three points towards the end of the match as "mystifying" after their Rugby World Cup defeat to Wales.

Matt Dawson has suggested that England's decision making and individual skills let them down during their 28-25 defeat to Wales.

A late Gareth Davies try and 23 points from the boot of Dan Biggar helped the 2011 semi-finalists come from behind to beat the hosts, although Stuart Lancaster's men turned down a shot at goal in dying minutes, which could have tied the scores.

However, Dawson has criticised England's decision to kick for touch in search of a match-winning try, describing the choice as "mystifying".

He told BBC Sport: "It is a combination of individual skills and individual decision-making on the pitch. That has let England down.

"Going for the corner instead of goal. At the minimum, after a bad day at the office, you come away with a result. It was mystifying, as was the indiscipline. Kicking the ball away was mystifying. You have to change your tactics.

"Wales had weakness and used it to their advantage. It motivated them. I'll never forget this game because very rarely do you see such spirit in adversity away from home. This is a massive, if not their biggest ever, win."

England will now likely need to beat Australia next weekend to keep their hopes of a quarter-final place alive.
