Sir Clive Woodward says that England lacked quality off the bench during their 28-25 Rugby World Cup loss to Wales.

Former England head coach Sir Clive Woodward has said that England's bench was not strong enough during their Rugby World Cup loss to Wales.

Wales came from behind to beat England 28-25 at Twickenham, with Stuart Lancaster using his whole bench in the latter stages of the match.

"England started the second half well to move into a 19-9 lead. Another score then and it could have been over, but from that point onwards England let Wales back in," Woodward wrote in the Daily Mail.

"Some of the replacements were apparently down to injuries but England used their entire bench and they just didn't deliver. They failed to maintain the momentum and the steam seamed to disappear out of the team.

"England lost the shape which had served them so well and for a period they stopped being proactive and mistakes started to creep into their game."

England will continue their Rugby World Cup campaign against Australia on Saturday,
