England name unchanged squad for Italy clash

England head coach Stuart Lancaster names an unchanged 23-man squad for Saturday's Six Nations clash with Italy.

England head coach Stuart Lancaster has opted to retain the same 23-man squad for his team's Six Nations fixture with Italy.

Despite a number of players returning to training this week, Lancaster has placed trust in the players who fought back to defeat Wales 21-16 in Cardiff last Friday.

The 45-year-old told Englandrugby.com: "We'll name the team on Thursday but we've gone for the same squad given the performance against Wales.

"Although there are guys who are pushing hard for selection, it's important to have consistency and to build on the result in Cardiff.

"What's encouraging is that we have quality players across the board who can go back to their Aviva Premiership clubs and put a marker down for later in the Six Nations."

England's win over Wales ensured that they ended the first batch of fixtures on two points, alongside Ireland and Italy.

England 23-man squad to face Italy:

Dave Attwood, Kieran Brookes, Nick Easter, Dan Cole, Tom Croft, Dylan Hartley, James Haskell, George Kruis, Joe Marler, Chris Robshaw, Billy Vunipola, Mako Vunipola, Tom Youngs, Mike Brown, Luther Burrell, Danny Cipriani, George Ford, Jonathan Joseph, Jonny May, Billy Twelvetrees, Anthony Watson, Richard Wigglesworth, Ben Youngs
