French captain Thierry Dusautoir believes that his side "proved people wrong" despite their agonising 8-7 loss to New Zealand in the World Cup final in Auckland this morning.
Les Bleus went into the game as heavy underdogs following their unconvincing performances in the tournament so far but fought bravely against the hosts, who went unbeaten throughout the tournament.
"It's a real pity but I'm very proud of my boys - we lost two games in the pool but made the final," said Dusautoir.
"We read a lot of stuff this week [about how we would lose] but we proved a lot of people wrong today."
The France flanker scored a try and was named man of the match.
