The Irish Rugby Football Union have clarified concerns over Johnny Sexton's fitness by insisting that he is well enough to play for Ireland in Saturday's Six Nations clash against France.
The 29-year-old, who plays for Racing Metro, spent 12 weeks out of action to recover from concussion, from which he has suffered four times in a year.
To answer concerns over Sexton's fitness, the IRFU has released a statement, which reads: "In light of some disappointing and inaccurate commentary in the media by individuals with no medical expertise, the IRFU would like to clarify some facts pertaining to the medical management of Ireland international Johnny Sexton."
The governing body states that the fly-half has been "symptom free" for two months and was cleared to play in this weekend's encounter by independent neurologists in France and Ireland.
The FFR concussion review committee, as well as medical teams at both Racing Metro and Ireland, also gave Sexton the green light to compete.
