Ronan O'Gara has been left out of Ireland's 32-man squad for Saturday's Six Nations encounter with France in Dublin.
The decision from coach Declan Kidney has raised doubts over the 35-year-old's international future.
Jonathan Sexton could start at fly-half against Les Bleus at the Aviva Stadium, while Paddy Jackson and Ian Maidgan have both been named as cover.
O'Gara is Ireland's most capped player with 128 appearances and is also their all-time leading points scorer.
Ireland have won one and lost two of their opening three matches in this year's Six Nations.
