Japan coach Eddie Jones has stated that he wants his side to justify their new World Rugby ranking when they play Scotland on Wednesday.
Japan have moved above their opponents to 11th position in the latest rankings thanks to victory over South Africa, while Vern Cotter's outfit fall to 12th.
"Are we favourites? Well if you read most of the papers we are not," Jones said to reporters ahead of the fixture.
"People still think it was a fluke that we beat South Africa, so this is a great chance for us to show it was not and really front us as a serious rugby nation."
Japan sit in second position in Pool B following victory over the Springboks, while Scotland's first fixture of the tournament is Wednesday's match at Kingsholm.
