New Zealand sevens player Tim Mikkelson has insisted that his side are not looking past day one of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
The All Blacks got off to an emphatic start at Ibrox this morning as they thrashed Canada 39-0 in the opening game of the day, while hosts Scotland and minnows Barbados lie in wait later today.
New Zealand go into the weekend as overwhelming favourites having never lost a match at the Commonwealths since its inception in 1998, but Mikkelson is wary of teams raising their game against the reigning champions.
"Yeah, whenever we play teams always raise themselves and play out of their skins. We can't look any further than our pool play and we're just trying to get through the first day," he told Sports Mole.
In addition to their Commonwealth Games crown, New Zealand are also reigning IRB World Series and World Cup champions in sevens.
