Ireland started strongly and scored after 11 minutes with a try, Conor Murray pushing over the line after a dummy.

The try was converted and Ireland went further ahead when Jonny Sexton put over a penalty after 19 minutes.

New Zealand finally scored after 21 minutes, Dan Carter converting a penalty.

Two more penalty scores followed for the All Blacks, on 30 and 34 minutes respectively.

Carter had a chance to give New Zealand the lead on the stroke of half time, but his kick from almost halfway dropped just short.

The All Blacks came flying out of the blocks for the second half and scored their first try on 42, Aaron Smith confirmed as over after a replay.

Just two minutes later, on 45, Sexton scored a penalty to bring Ireland to within three points.

Ireland then had a sustained spell of pressure but could not quite break through, until another penalty at the other end on 62 increased the All Blacks' lead to six.

Sexton again reduced the deficit to three with his fourth kick of the match to set up a close final 15 minutes.

Ireland were level with just under 12 minutes to play with another penalty under the posts.

Israel Dagg for yellow-carded for a late tackle on 72 minutes, giving Ireland a man advantage for the remainder, but Sexton put his kick short from the long penalty.

With less than two minutes remaining Carter had a drop-goal touched in flight, which set up a scrum on the Ireland five-yard line. The scrum came out to Carter who didn't miss a third drop-goal attempt, breaking Irish hearts in the final seconds.
