Rugby New Zealand 2011 announce an increase in ticket sales following the start of the World Cup.

Rugby New Zealand 2011 (RNZ 2011) have announced a surge in ticket sales as the World Cup gets underway.

Tournament organisers have sold 1.2 million tickets so far, taking ticket sales revenue to a total of NZ$249m (£129m), which is just NZ$19.5m short of their end of tournament target.

"We are now seeing sales of almost NZ$1m a day," said Therese Walsh, the Chief Operating Officer for RNZ 2011.

"We always expected sales to rise as the tournament comes alive across the country so it's great to see so many New Zealanders now wanting to be ringside."

With seven more matches at six different stadiums this weekend, and sales continuing to grow, organisers are warning fans to get their tickets as soon as possible.

"We are expecting most of these matches to be at or near capacity so our advice to fans is to purchase tickets now and avoid disappointment or having to queue on match day."
