Toulon beat Saracens 23-6 to retain the Heineken Cup in today's final at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.

Toulon have beaten Saracens 23-6 to retain the Heineken Cup in today's final at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.

After a scrappy first half, the French side, who won the trophy last year, stepped up a gear after the break to mark the end of the Heineken Cup in style.

Saracens took the lead early on, as Owen Farrell kicked a penalty after just three minutes to put the British outfit three points up.

On the half-hour mark, however, Toulon scored the first try of the game after Matt Giteau sent a kick over the Saracens defence, before completing the move by collecting Drew Mitchell's pass and touching down.

Jonny Wilkinson, playing his final game on British soil, followed the try up with a conversion.

Just before the break, the 2003 World Cup winner then scored a drop goal to put his side 10-3 up.

Farrell put his side within four points of the defending champions with a penalty in the 45th minute, but just eight minutes later, Wilkinson was on hand to secure more points for his team with a penalty of his own.

The game was put beyond Saracens' reach when Juan Smith scored a try on the hour mark and Wilkinson stepped up to kick another conversion.

Just two minutes later, the England legend gave his team three more points with another penalty, with Toulon able to see out the rest of the game and secure the trophy.
