A contract dispute between the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) and Regional Rugby Wales (RRW) may mean that a number of the country's players will be unable to compete in the 2014 Commonwealth Games, according to a report.
Although many of the players announced in the rugby sevens squad have contracts with the WRU, they also have playing deals with their respective regions.
Wales Online reports that players from Cardiff Blues, Newport Gwent Dragons, Ospreys and Scarlets will be unable to represent their country in less than a fortnight, with the RRW threatening to withdraw its players.
The two Unions previously had a participation agreement, worth £6.7m, which was shared among the regions in return for releasing players for international duty. However, the deal expired last month and no subsequent contract has been signed.
