Team England's Dean Bale has won the bronze medal in the men's 50m rifle final at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
The 21-year-old picked up something of a surprise place on the podium by edging out Jersey's Cameron Pirouet in the elimination round, producing a shot of 9.7 to confirm at least the bronze.
A final effort of 9.2 was not enough to overhaul Grzegorz Sych in second place, though, as the Canadian progressed through to the final elimination stage.
It was always going to be a tall order for Sych to overtake Sanjeev Rajput, and sure enough the Indian saved the best until last with a score of 10.3 on his final shot to take gold with a new Games record.
Rajput's mark of 454.5 was enough to clinch gold in comfortable fashion, with the world number 10 improving on his silver medal from Glasgow four years ago.
Australia's Dane Sampson had been expected to challenge for the medals too, having won gold in the 10m rifle event last Sunday, but he disappointed with a seventh-placed finish - one behind England's Kenneth Parr.
