Switzerland gold medallist Heidi Diethelm Gerber has revealed her delight after her victory in the women's 25m pistol final at the European Games ensured that her country received a quota place for Rio 2016.
Diethelm Gerber claimed gold on Saturday morning at the Baku Shooting Centre after notching an impressive 8-4 victory over Bulgaria's Antoaneta Boneva.
"I'm really happy because I got the quota place as well," Diethelm Gerber told reporters.
"At the World Cup I have been in the final three times and always finished sixth, seventh or eighth. I'm really happy to get the quota place for Switzerland.
"I expected to be in the final, but the qualification was quite bad. After this morning I thought it was not enough for the final but then my coach told me I got it. It feels good and I'm relaxed now, and I feel free and ready for the other competitions."
Switzerland find themselves in eighth position in the medals table, which is being led by a dominant Russian Federation showing.
