Ali Carter has recorded a 10-3 victory over Tom Ford to win the German Masters.

The 43-year-old, a former World Championship runner-up, went into the event in Berlin without a title since 2016, but he took his opportunity to get back into the winners circle.

Ford made the faster start to the showpiece, making a 121 break in the opening frame, and overturning a 64-0 deficit in the second saw him double his advantage.

However, Carter proceeded to win the next six frames, the standout break being a 120, but it was his consistency in compiling scores in excess of 50 which was the difference maker.

Ford battled hard to stop the rot in the final frame of the afternoon session, giving him hope that he could pull off an unlikely comeback and win his first televised title.

Nevertheless, it was Carter who dominated during the early stages in the evening, reeling off the four frames that he required in succession to lift his second German Masters trophy.

Carter has now jumped from 23rd in the World Snooker Rankings into 15th place, an important move with the World Championship in mind, while Ford has edged up one spot into 23rd.

Neil Robertson is back up to fourth position, a consequence of Judd Trump not being present to defend his ranking points from winning the event two years ago. body check tags ::
