Rebecca Adlington has called for the appointment of a British head swimming coach following the departure of Dennis Pursley after the Olympic Games.
London 2012 bronze medallist said that the American's successor should be homegrown with a better understanding of the UK system.
"I hope they bring in someone British," Adlington told BBC Radio 5 Live.
"It's hard when a foreigner comes in as they don't know the system and, for example, in America they have a college system, which is different to ours."
A review of British professional swimming is currently underway following Team GB's failure to meet their medal targets in the pool at London 2012.
Pursley's successor is expected to be named after the investigation has concluded.
