The world champions were awarded a score of 98.930 for their repertoire titled 'The Lost World' in the free routine final, giving them an overall tally of 197.030.
China edged out Spain to pick up the silver medal with a butterfly-themed routine. They came away with a final score of 194.010, less than a point more than the bronze-winning Spaniards.
Team GB dazzled the crowd with a routine based on Peter Pan, coming in sixth place overall with a final score of 175.440.
Today's result sees Russia pick up their second gold medal in synchronised swimming following Natalia Ishchenko and Svetlana Romashina's success in the duets event.
