Team GB swimmer Layla Black tells Sports Mole that she is happy with the rate of her progression on the road to the 2020 Olympics following a fifth-place finish in Baku.

Team GB swimmer Layla Black has said that she is happy with the rate of her progression following her fifth-place finish in the final of the women's 50m breaststroke at the European Games today.

The 14-year-old qualified for the final by finishing third in her semi-final heat, and then proceeded to post a time of 32.21s in the final - just 0.13s off a bronze medal.

Having also impressed with a record-breaking display at the British Championships earlier this year, the future looks bright for Black, who has revealed that reaching the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo is her long-term aim.

Asked whether she was happy with her progress, she told Sports Mole: "Yeah. It's just a bit fast! It doesn't seem two seconds since I started swimming, to be honest, but I'm swimming well so it's good.

"When I'm breaking records that have been held by future Olympians and things like that it does make me feel a bit better towards the future.

"[My] long, long term [goal] is the [2020] Olympics. Europeans next year again hopefully, and then Commonwealths in 2018."

Black will also take part in the 100m and 200m breaststroke events later this week.
