Ryan Lochte has made it through to the semi-finals of the men's 200m backstroke at London 2012.
The American was relatively slow during the first 150m, fourth to turn ahead of the final length, but powered through the final leg to touch the side ahead of China's Zhang Fenglin.
Lochte's time of 1:56.36 sends him through to the last 16 as the second-fastest qualifier behind compatriot Tyler Clary, who won his heat with a time of 1:56.24.
Team GB duo Marco Loughran and Chris Walker-Hebborn fell at the first hurdle, coming a respective seventh and eighth in the third heat.
The men's backstroke semi-finals take place this evening at 7.49pm.
