Team Wales swimmer Ieuan Lloyd hopes that crowds at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow get behind all the separate British teams.

Team Wales swimmer Ieuan Lloyd is hoping that crowds at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow will get behind the other British teams aside from Scotland.

Lloyd, 21, is competing in his second Commonwealth Games after making his debut aged just 17 in Delhi four years ago.

He also competed for Team GB at the London 2012 Olympics, and is hoping for a similarly partisan crowd in Glasgow.

"After London I realised that home support makes a big difference," he told Sports Mole at the London Aquatics Centre today.

"I went to Delhi and I went to Barcelona last year for the [World Championships] and the difference between London and out there was incredible.

"I remember stepping out for the relay and the atmosphere numbed my ears and made me smile. Hopefully the Scottish are just as kind!"

The Welsh swimming team may be small, but they have been set a six-medal target - a goal Lloyd is confident that they can achieve.

"We're only a small nation, but we do have strong swimmers," he added. "With guys like Jazmin Carlin, Georgia Davies and Jemma Lowe we've got the ability there and hopefully a couple of other people can step up."

Lloyd's main medal hopes lie in the 200m individual medley, which will take place on the final day of swimming competition on July 29.
